Almost done...

I'm still making some small tombstones out of foam core board for around the Spanish moss in the basket, and DH thinks it needs lights (I need some with black cord though???) . Everything "spooky" is applied with black topped corsage pins or glue dots so this will become just a "fall" topiary once Halloween is over.

I've gone apron crazy!

This is my test apron lol! I have another one that will be red and green with of course, STRAWBERRIES! :) My other pattern finally arrived so now I need to go buy some fabric for that. (or hunt down a vintage bedsheet I have around here someplace!)

This was super easy to make and the pattern was easy to follow. The fabric cost me about $5-$7 but I could have done it for less. I made it 11 petals instead of 6 so it is Plus Sized AND will wrap around my hips (where I tend to wipe my hands while cooking). It was a great starter pattern. Dh even "let" me use his Rowenta iron (I am not allowed to use this one for "crafts" because I yucked up his last couple on experiments in my scraproom!) :P

Oh and I found this extra foot for my sewing machine in it's box. I had completely forgotten about it. Anyone have any idea what it's for??

Topiary or snowman??

Rob is teasing me saying this looks like a snowman! Only someone that grew up in Upstate NY and has seen SNOW on Halloween would make that connection LOL! Still needs floral and to be "spookified"!

I also started ANOTHER apron pattern because the one I posted about earlier is taking FOREVER to arrive. I had to call the other day and find out why I had not gotten it yet TWO WEEKS after I paid for it. seems it was just sent out on Saturday too so I still have a while to wait!

So in the mean time I downloaded a pattern I had seen on the new Leisure Arts banner at 2P's. I got the cutest fabric for this too. (Ok actually enough to make 2 aprons LOL).
This chick modeling it is SKINNY! No way in hell is that gonna fit me LOL, so I think I can "plus size" it pretty easily & that makes me very happy! it will actually fit my entire lap! I may make one reversible with pockets for my scraproom. ;)

Camping

My Mom came over yesterday and brought a stack of photos of her camping when she was a little girl. I just love this picture. I ordered some Mr. Campy paper and can't wait to scrap this! I think my favorite things about this picture are the stove pipe camp fire and the old case box of Miller High Life on the funky camp bench.

I'm totally heading towards a camping scrapping kick apparently because the paper was originally bought for another picture I had of Rob and I camping, along with this one of him, his Mom, and brother. (that's Rob in the red sweatshirt back in 1984 :) ) Hopefully there is enough Cosmo Cricket to go around!

Finally found a pattern!

Wish me luck! I just bought my first pattern. I'm not new to sewing, but like crochet I can't read a pattern. I just make my own as I go along. this should be interesting LOL! I've wanted one for a while like this. they are nearly impossible to find and when I do the chest is never big enough.

I have alot of memories of my Great Grandma Sylvester wearing a vintage apron like this when she'd visit for holidays from Sequim. She seems to have kept several at my grandparent's house and was always wearing them when she'd take a break from cooking to come sit on the couch and sing my sister and I a song. A song I have NEVER been able to find online and is so odd because we sang it in elementary school as well. Something about Poor babes lost in the woods, laying down to die, and being covered in strawberry leaves. Horrifying isn't it? Sounds like the thing nightmares are made of. But, her lovely southern accent was enough to make me ask her to sing each time she visited.

I will be making my own from this beautiful pattern I found. I'm hoping this will save me a few shirts a week in laundry! If I get stuck though I am calling my (other) grandma Clarice! She's the seamstress in the family and she's offered to sew anything I want as long as I cut the pattern out myself. Some day I hope to be that good...maybe even inherit that Viking she has ;)
